Wet weather dampening your spirits? The singers of the Mid Canterbury Summer Singing School have a fix for that.
The 103 students, aged nine to 22 years old, have spent the last week rehearsing songs from Broadway shows for this year’s show, titled ‘Broadway Bound’.
“These young people achieve excellence within the five half days,” a representative of the Singing School said; “what most show achieve in three months.”
“This results in a show that entertains an audience, encourages the cast to be more involved in theatre in the future, and inspires others to join in, in the following years.”
The musical theatre course is directed by Sarah Bryant and musically directed by Jo Castelow, and has run in some form for over 26 years.
“[Sarah] the Director/Choreographer performed in the very first MCSSS show as a 9 year old!”
The Singing School encouraged young people on the fence about joining to sign up for next year’s course.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to do something fun in the holidays.
“It increases confidence, wellbeing and performance skills, alongside the sense of togetherness as a theatre family.”
The students will showcase their learning over two performances at the Ashburton Event Centre.
Shows run on Friday 16, 7.30pm, and Saturday 17, 7.30pm. Tickets $35 each.
